Central Government if satisfied that any ancient monument or archaeological site and remains is of national importance, it may declare the monument or site as the case may be as of national importance by notification in Official Gazette. Section 4 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 gives power to the Central Government to declare ancient monument or site as of national importance. So far 93 monuments/ site have been declared as of national importance in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
